About the art
Book Club was originally a color lithograph advertisement published between 1898 and 1900 for Boston Illustrated. The original design carried the headline “The Best Guide to Boston” above the image and “Boston Illustrated For Sale Here: Price 50 cents” below it. It was designed by Ethel Reed (1874–1912), one of the most notable female poster designers of the period.
